Code19 lands $3M seed from Colorado ONE Fund for defense autonomy

What's the deal? Code19 AutonomyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a veteran-founded startup building autonomy software for defense applications, has raised a $3 million seed round led by Colorado ONE Fund, the venture arm of ONE FundsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The money will accelerate development of Maveric AI, software designed for fast, contested environments where conditions change rapidly.

What's the endgame? Rather than building a single vehicle, Code19 develops software that integrates with third-party vehicles, sensors, and command-and-control systems. Its first major application is intercept autonomy: bringing Maveric AI to aircraft that pursue and intercept maneuvering airborne threats.

Why it matters: Counter-drone missions often require expensive defensive systems to engage low-cost threats. By bringing advanced autonomous control to cheaper platforms, Code19 aims to field capable systems at greater scale, and is also developing sense-and-evade capabilities for attack and surveillance aircraft.

The traction: Maveric AI has been designated "Award Ready" through the US Army's DevX Autonomy program. Code19 is a finalist in the Department of War's Low-Cost Interceptor Challenge and holds a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane.

The Bloomington, Indiana-based company grew out of autonomous racing, competing in series such as the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League and using the track as a testbed for dual-use technology.

Why now? The round lands as the Department of War pushes autonomy across its forces. At last week's Association of the United States Army meeting, leaders emphasized applications beyond drones, and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth stressed putting systems in warfighters' hands.

"The team has paired a distinctive technical foundation with meaningful early government traction, and we see significant potential for that capability across defense applications," said Kevin O'Neil, chief executive officer of ONE Funds.

The signal: Defense-autonomy investment has surged, with NATO-country defense startups raising $27.1 billion through September 2026, already above 2025's full-year total. Code19's seed is an early bet on the technology rather than a major financing milestone — but it fits a market tilting hard toward autonomous systems.
