Psyence BioMed completes $2.6M PsyLabs investment as ibogaine milestones are met

What's the deal? Psyence BiomedicalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → (Nasdaq: PBM) has completed a US$2,599,896 late-stage investment in Psyence Labs (PsyLabsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →), after both milestones tied to its backstop subscription commitment were achieved. The round values PsyLabs at US$54 million, with Psyence BioMed and its subsidiary psyence biomed ii corp.Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → as backers.

Why now? The payment was triggered by two milestones: PsyLabs completing an ibogaine regulatory readiness documentation package, and signing a US cGMP manufacturing agreement with Benuvia Operations, a DEA-registered facility in Round Rock, Texas. The backstop tranches had to be called and completed by December 31, 2026.

What's the endgame? The money supports PsyLabs' intended supply of pharmaceutical-grade ibogaine for Psyence BioMed's planned US development program. The investment is part of an agreed commitment of up to US$5 million, comprising an irrevocable US$2.4 million and up to US$2.6 million in milestone-based tranches.

How it's structured: The Benuvia agreement was signed by Texas Ibogaine Research Corporation, a wholly-owned Psyence BioMed subsidiary set up to run manufacturing, nonclinical, and regulatory work. That structure lets PsyLabs focus on cultivating, extracting, and supplying ibogaine, and positions the Texas unit to pursue domestic funding and grants.

What could go wrong? The regulatory opening remains narrow. The company is still evaluating a potential Texas ibogaine trial for opioid use disorder, which depends on protocol design, regulatory review, and approvals. A reciprocal share exchange valued at about US$9 million on each side is a related-party transaction, deepening cross-ownership between the two companies.

The signal: At roughly US$2.6 million, this is a modest deal, landing in the 8th percentile by amount among comparable rounds. It reflects a still-early US ibogaine push — Texas has committed public funding to research, while the FDA has begun outlining considerations for early-phase trials. For now, the investment is principally a bet on manufacturing and supply capacity, not a clinical breakthrough.
