Fibocom takes control of HSAE in $214M automotive electronics buyout

What's the deal? Fibocom has completed a US$196.4M (roughly $214 million) cash acquisition of a 37.16% stake in Shenzhen Hangsheng Electronics (HSAE). Through an acting-in-concert arrangement, Fibocom and allied parties now hold 51.40% of voting rights, making HSAE a controlled subsidiary.

The state of play: The share transfer is complete, and Fibocom has paid 20% of the price — US$39.3M — with the balance due per the agreement. HSAE has reshuffled its board and senior management, and the company says no substantive legal obstacles remain.

What each side brings: Fibocom makes automotive wireless communication modules, smart cockpit modules, and computing platforms. Founded in 1993, HSAE has spent three decades in automotive electronics, spanning smart cockpits, intelligent driving, and automotive acoustics, with long-term ties to carmakers in China and overseas.

What's the endgame? Fibocom wants to move beyond supplying modules to delivering full automotive electronics systems. It plans to combine its wireless connectivity and on-device AI with HSAE's OEM project experience across smart cockpits and driving electronics.

Why it matters: Fibocom reported first-half 2026 revenue growth of just 1.92%, while net profit attributable to shareholders fell 71.63% year-on-year. Whether the deal delivers real synergy and profit will matter more than its completion.

The signal: The buyout extends a trend of Chinese suppliers integrating vertically into automotive electronic systems — echoed by Luxshare's recent move into chassis electronics — as component makers push into higher-value car parts.
