Daytona raises $60M Series B at $1B valuation to build the ‘agentic cloud’

What's the deal? Daytona, a San Francisco startup building cloud infrastructure for AI agents, has raised a $60 million Series B at a $1 billion valuation. FirstMark led the round, joined by founders including Stripe's Patrick CollisonDealroom has a profile for this one. What's the endgame? Daytona sells "sandboxes" — virtual machines that let AI agents write code, browse the web, and run software in isolated, persistent environments. Chief executive Ivan Burazin argues existing clouds are too slow, taking up to minutes to spin up a machine; Daytona says it can configure one in 60 milliseconds by pre-loading snapshots onto server drives.

Why now? Daytona already serves major AI firms, counting Anthropic, OpenAI, Nvidia, Cursor, Cognition, Meta, and Cohere as customers, which use its sandboxes to train and test models. Data company Snorkel alone has provisioned more than one million sandboxes on the platform.

By the numbers: Burazin said revenue run rate grew 25-fold between January and September, averaging 50.9% monthly growth. About $50 million of the round came from existing investors, bringing total funding raised to roughly $91 million — a sharp step up from February's $24 million Series A, also led by FirstMark.

What could go wrong? The $1 billion valuation sits in the top 8% of US enterprise-software Series B rounds, a bet on growth rather than scale. Burazin said investors repeatedly asked why the market needed Daytona when "AWS can do this thing."

The signal: The round reflects rising investor appetite for infrastructure that runs AI agents safely at scale. Rivals are drawing big cheques too: Modal raised $355 million at a $4.65 billion valuation in May, while Sail Research raised $80 million in June — a wager that agent execution becomes a substantial cloud market.
