FlamAid raises €1M as UFC champion Topuria backs safety wearable
What's the deal? Barcelona-based FlamAidDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has closed a second funding round of €1 million (≈$1.1 million) for its wearable personal-safety device, the company announced in October 2026. UFC champion Ilia Topuria and Portuguese chef José Avillez backed the round.
What's the endgame? FlamAid makes a wearable it calls a "peaceful grenade": pull the ring and it triggers a 110dB alarm, shares real-time GPS with emergency contacts, and records audio and video. A companion app ties the hardware together.
Why now? The round doubles the amount FlamAid raised previously and brings in new investors alongside its original backers. The startup, founded in 2022, now operates in more than 10 countries, with Spain as its main market.
Founder and chief executive officer Julieta Rueff, 21, built the company after her own experience of harassment. She found its main buyers were not the young women she expected but their parents — prompting a split strategy that keeps branding aimed at younger users while sales messaging targets parents.
What could go wrong? FlamAid competes in a market with far larger players. Rivals include US-based Life360, which has raised around $160 million, while another comparable wearable maker, RevolarDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, has shut down.
The signal: Investor interest from figures outside tech points to growing appetite for consumer safety hardware, a niche where European startups remain small against US-funded incumbents. Rueff has said her ideal outcome is bleaker still: "The biggest success for FlamAid would be to close for lack of market" (translated from Spanish).
