Plus500 buys Brazil's Guru in second deal this week

What's the deal? Plus500 has agreed to acquire full ownership of Guru, a broker-dealer regulated by the Central Bank of Brazil and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Brazil. The price was undisclosed, and Plus500 said it will fund the deal from existing cash reserves of more than $860 million as of June 30.

What's the endgame? Guru gives Plus500 a locally regulated foothold in Brazil, complementing its B2B partnership with trading-technology provider Nelogica and its recent entry into Colombia. Its licence lets Plus500 broaden its local offering to include Brazilian stocks, futures, options, and fixed income securities.

Why now? The deal is Plus500's second this week. It follows the February purchase of India's Mehta EquitiesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and last week's agreement to buy US broker-dealer Hedge, which adds securities capabilities ahead of a planned US multi-asset app in 2027.

"Brazil is one of the world's most attractive trading markets," said chief executive David Zruia, adding that acquiring Guru gives Plus500 the licence and expertise to grow there.

What could go wrong? Completion remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. With terms undisclosed, the strategic rationale is clearer than the deal's near-term financial impact.

The signal: Plus500 is increasingly buying local licences and market access rather than relying on partnerships alone, a strategy aimed at broadening beyond its established trading products across new regions.
