Perth's Capability X closes $8.38M IPO, eyes November ASX debut
What's the deal? Perth-based safety technology developer Capability X has closed a fully subscribed US$7.76M initial public offering ahead of its listing on the Australian Securities Exchange. The company issued 60 million shares at US$0.13 each, implying an indicative market capitalisation of roughly US$22.3M. It is scheduled to begin trading under the ticker CX8 on November 12, subject to listing conditions.
What's the endgame? Founded in November 2022 by managing director Chris Eastwell, Capability X built CX Edge, a lidar camera and edge AI control system that acts as a real-time safety monitor in hazardous industrial sites. By processing data at the point of activity rather than in remote data centres, the system tracks how workers and machinery interact to pre-empt incidents.
Why now? The platform is already deployed and generating recurring subscription revenue across marine, offshore energy, ports, and logistics, with clients including WA Police, Qube Ports, and the government of Timor-Leste. Proceeds will fund expansion into oil and gas, government, mining, and defence markets.
Of the money raised, about US$3.04M will go toward research, development, and wages, US$1.36M toward hardware inventory, and US$2.33M toward working capital, according to the prospectus. The company is chaired by former Howard government cabinet minister Ian Campbell and holds two provisional patent filings.

The signal: The listing lands as Australia's IPO market sends mixed signals. Reuters reported new share sales totaled US$886.5M in the first nine months of 2026, yet the larger, Nvidia-backed Firmus float was pulled amid weak demand and valuation concerns. Capability X's modest, completed raise is notable on its own terms — but not proof of a broad rebound.
