NuCube lands $25M from Alaska state fund to back factory-built microreactors
What's the deal? NuCube Energy has secured a $25 million investment from the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a state-backed body, to advance its factory-built microreactors. AIDEA is the anchor investor in NuCube's current financing, joining Arizona Nuclear Ventures, Emission Reduction Corporation, and Walmart heir Rob Walton with Jordan Rose Walton.
What's the endgame? The Idaho Falls company is building its NuSun microreactor platform, a standardised, factory-made design aimed at remote communities and industrial sites beyond the reach of traditional power infrastructure. Proceeds will fund development, manufacturing readiness, and licensing.
Why now? AIDEA will buy $25 million of Class A ordinary shares at $9.25 each, a roughly 14.5% discount to the $10.82 reference price tied to NuCube's planned business combination with Launch Two Acquisition CorpDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The investment counts toward the $75 million minimum cash condition required to close that deal.
Why Alaska? Many Alaskan communities rely on costly imported fossil fuel. "AIDEA's role is to help advance projects that create jobs, expand economic opportunities, and improve energy reliability without relying on state appropriations," said deputy executive director Brandon Brefczynski.
What could go wrong? The investment follows a $13 million raise in February, bringing announced funding to $38 million — modest against peers. Antares raised $470 million in July and Valar Atomics announced a $1 billion Series B. NuCube's reactor is not yet licensed or commercially proven.
The signal: Government demand for microreactors is building, with the US Army's Janus program offering up to $2.2 billion across selected vendors. AIDEA's stake stands out as targeted public support for an early-stage developer — but its payoff hinges on whether NuCube converts capital into technical and regulatory milestones.
