NuCube Energy Inc. is a technology company developing a modular microreactor for nuclear fission designed to produce both high-temperature heat and electricity. Founded in 2023 by entrepreneur Bill Gross and nuclear engineer Dr. Cristian Rabiti, the company originated at the Idealab Studio with a focus on reinventing reactor technology to be simpler, safer, and more scalable. Gross, founder of Idealab Studio, and Dr. Rabiti, who serves as CEO and was previously VP of Business Development at Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation, aim to address rising global energy demands from sectors like AI, manufacturing, and data centers.

The company is headquartered in Idaho Falls, Idaho, placing it in proximity to the Idaho National Laboratory, and is expanding operations in Arizona. In February 2026, NuCube announced it had secured $13 million in funding in a round led by Arizona Nuclear Ventures, with participation from investors including Rob and Jordan Rose Walton and Emission Reduction Corporation. This capital is intended to advance materials testing, finalize the reactor design, and support regulatory engagement toward demonstration and commercial deployment. The company has also been selected to join the Halliburton Labs ecosystem and has received support from the Shell GameChanger program. Additionally, NuCube has entered a strategic partnership with Energy Vault to accelerate the deployment of its NuSun™ platform for high-energy-demand sites like data centers.

NuCube's core product is a high-temperature, gas-cooled microreactor, the NuCube DeccaCell™, which can be transported by road or rail. The reactor is designed to deliver up to 15 MW of power and industrial heat up to 1,100 degrees Celsius, a capability that positions it to compete with natural gas for industrial applications. Its solid-state, modular design features no moving parts and passive safety systems, utilizing TRISO fuel and heat pipes. This architecture is engineered for a core life of seven to thirty years before refueling or replacement. A key application is providing reliable, carbon-free baseload power for industrial campuses, remote operations, and large data centers. The NuSun™ platform, an application of this technology, will be integrated with Energy Vault's energy storage and management systems to provide an uninterrupted power solution.
