Hologic to acquire Spain's Reveal Genomics to widen breast-cancer diagnostics
What's the deal? HologicDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Reveal GenomicsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Barcelona-based precision oncology company. Financial terms were not disclosed. The deal adds Reveal's HER2DX test, which helps guide therapy for patients with HER2-positive breast cancer, to Hologic's diagnostics portfolio.
What's the endgame? Hologic, a women's-health group best known for breast imaging and screening, is pushing deeper into treatment-selection diagnostics. Reveal's tests complement its existing Breast Cancer Index assay, which informs decisions on extended endocrine therapy for early-stage patients.
Why now? The acquisition fits a broader move to pair cancer testing with precision treatment. Abbott completed its roughly $21 billion purchase of Exact Sciences in March, while Roche agreed to buy SAGA Diagnostics for up to $595 million in April.
What they're saying: "Reveal Genomics' portfolio is a strong strategic complement to our existing oncology offering within Diagnostic Solutions," said Vitor Rocha, chief executive officer of Hologic's Diagnostic Solutions unit. Reveal CEO and co-founder Patricia Villagrasa-Gonzalez said joining Hologic gives the startup "the scale and capabilities to accelerate that mission and reach many more patients worldwide."
What could go wrong? Completion depends on Spanish regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions. Beyond that, the deal's value will hinge on clinical uptake and commercial reach, not just the transaction itself.
The signal: Hologic's move is far more targeted than the multibillion-dollar oncology deals from Abbott and Roche, but it reflects the same trend — diagnostics firms racing to own tests that steer treatment, not just detect disease.
