SEI Group buys Utah's Greenhome in 17th acquisition since 2021

What's the deal? SEI GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, an installer of insulation and specialty building products, has acquired Greenhome Specialties, a West Haven, Utah-based insulation installer. Terms were not disclosed. Greenhome owner Kyle Tolman will stay on as president.

The companies: Greenhome, founded in 2011, installs fiberglass, spray foam, and other insulation for residential, multi-family, and light commercial construction across the Salt Lake City area, Utah, and nearby states. SEI, backed by Quad-C Management, installs insulation plus products such as shelving, mirrors, shower doors, gutters, and garage doors.

The expansion: The deal marks SEI's first entry into Utah, one of the fastest-growing US construction markets. It extends the company's reach into a region where homebuilding demand has been climbing.

Why now? SEI has been consolidating aggressively. Since recapitalising with Quad-C in February 2021, it has bought 17 businesses, growing to 45 branches across 14 states.

What's the endgame? "This acquisition marks SEI's first entry into the fast growing Utah market," said chief executive officer Mark Moore, adding that the deal "reflects our continued success in the execution of our strategic growth plans."

The signal: SEI's steady roll-up of regional installers reflects a broader play in building products: private equity-backed firms are stitching together fragmented local operators to build national footprints and ride housing demand.
