Aqualvia lands €500,000 seed round from BeHappy Investments for tiger prawn farming

What's the deal? Spanish aquaculture startup AqualviaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised €500,000 (≈$560,812) in a seed round led by BeHappy InvestmentsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, an investment vehicle focused on sustainable projects. The deal combines equity and debt, and according to published reports gives BeHappy a 51% stake in the company.

What's the endgame? Founded in June 2026 in Ayamonte, Huelva, Aqualvia farms tiger prawns ( Penaeus japonicus ) on land, in ponds that reproduce the species' habitat. It controls the full cycle — from the larval stage through breeding to live sale — which it says makes it the only company in Europe to manage every step of production and distribution of live tiger prawns.

Why now? The company has just started operations and plans to sell its first live prawns to professional buyers at Christmas. Its initial target is 18 tonnes, a forecast still unproven commercially.

The money will fund this first stage. Aqualvia says it will focus on consolidating its farming and distribution processes and building its presence in the Spanish market.

In their words: "We have worked for years to turn aquaculture knowledge into a business model that connects farming with the delivery of live prawn," said chief executive officer Emilio Rodríguez (translated from Spanish). The goal, he added, is "a stable national production, with traceability at every stage."

The signal: Aqualvia's round is modest — it sits around the 22nd percentile for deal size and dwarfed by other recent aquaculture bets, such as Seafood Legacy's roughly €100 million salmon plant in Galicia. The story matters less as a large raise than as a specialised, early-stage attempt to localise live prawn supply in Spain — a model that has yet to prove it can reach stable production.
