Tenstorrent raises $1.5B Series E, doubling valuation to $6.2B
What's the deal? Santa Clara-based AI chip company Tenstorrent, run by chip-design veteran Jim Keller, has closed a $1.5 billion Series E at a $6.2 billion post-money valuation, the company announced on 19 October 2026. Newly launched Trace Capital and Innovation X led the round, with ARK InvestDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, FidelityDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, T. Rowe Price, Morgan Stanley, Sandisk, Tether Investments, Cadence Ventures and others participating.
What's the endgame? Tenstorrent builds RISC-V-based AI processors and systems, selling compute "at every size" — from single cards to superclusters — and licensing its CPU and AI cores to chip designers including Samsung and LG. The capital will fund volume manufacturing of its Galaxy servers, next-generation hardware, and hiring.
Why now? The valuation more than doubles the roughly $2.6 billion Tenstorrent commanded at its nearly $700 million Series D in late 2024. Since then, it has started shipping Galaxy servers commercially.
Chief executive Jim Keller — who worked on chips at AMD, Apple, and Tesla — said a May demonstration showing the servers could run DeepSeek models was a turning point. "Once we had the ability to fundraise and demonstrate the performance and started to ship, the investor interest came in," he said.
Tenstorrent chose fresh funding over a sale, having held takeover talks with Intel and Qualcomm earlier this year, according to Bloomberg.
What could go wrong? Tenstorrent is challenging Nvidia, AMD, and Broadcom, which dominate the AI-chip market, with an open-source approach it says is cheaper and easier to customise. The round signals investor appetite, but not yet commercial traction at scale; the test is turning capital into deployments and recurring revenue.
The signal: The raise ranks among the largest Series E rounds ever for a US semiconductor company. It fits a wider surge in AI-chip investment in 2026, which saw Cerebras raise $1 billion and Positron secure $875 million at a $5 billion valuation, as customers hunt for alternatives to dominant proprietary platforms.
