Battery-materials maker Haodian raises new round, eyes IPO

What's the deal? Shenzhen-based lithium-battery materials maker Haodian Technology has closed a new funding round, backed by Oriental Fortune CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → (东方富海) and Caixin Fund (财鑫基金). The company, founded in March 2011, has also started its IPO process.

What does it do? Haodian makes functional materials for lithium batteries. Its headquarters and R&D centre sit in Shenzhen's Longgang district, with a pilot and product-testing centre in Dongguan.

What's the endgame? It runs two production bases — Ganzhou in Jiangxi, with planned capacity of 50,000 tonnes, and Jingmen in Hubei, planned at 100,000 tonnes. Haodian is a national high-tech enterprise and a state-designated "little giant" specialised firm.

Why now? The company's earlier funding targeted capacity and the development of lower-cost, fluorine-free cathode binders. Its last disclosed raise was an A round of more than US$20.6M in 2023, following a reported B round above US$13.8M in 2022.

The signal: China's battery-binder sector is heating up, with rivals such as 眉山茵地乐 and 回天新材 planning expansions of US$42.8M and US$17.3M. A fresh round plus an IPO push suggests Haodian is positioning for commercial scale-up as competition intensifies.
