What's the deal? AscensionDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has agreed to acquire fellow UK early-stage investor QVenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the firms announced on September 29, 2026. The combination folds QVentures' "First Cheque" strategy and more than 100 investments into Ascension's platform, which manages over £150m and has backed more than 150 startups since 2015. Financial terms were not disclosed.

What's the endgame? Ascension is one of the UK's most active pre-seed and seed investors, backing founders and supporting them through later rounds. The deal gives QVentures portfolio companies access to a larger platform, while offering investors a broader pipeline of opportunities.

Who's involved? QVentures, founded by Managing Partner Robert Walsh, has led 46 funding rounds over the past decade, with its leading First Cheque fund achieving top-decile performance. Walsh will continue to support the top-performing QVentures funds after the transaction.

Why now? UK venture fundraising has been tough.

What they're saying: "Ascension shares our belief in backing exceptional founders early, but brings the scale, resources, and broader investment platform that can help our companies go even further," Walsh said. Jean de Fougerolles, Managing Partner at Ascension, said the deal "strengthens our combined platform and expands what we can offer both founders and investors."

The signal: Combining portfolios and operating infrastructure may help both firms support founders and attract investors in a constrained market. Whether the deal marks a broader wave of UK venture consolidation remains to be seen.
