JMC Legal Recruitment directors buy out founder in management acquisition
What's the deal? Three directors of JMC Legal Recruitment have acquired the Bristol-based legal recruitment firm from founder Jason Connolly. Managing director Sean Nicholson, alongside directors Joe Bryant and Charlie Simpkin, bought Connolly's shareholding to take full ownership. Terms were not disclosed.
What's the endgame? JMC places lawyers into private practice and in-house roles across the UK. Its growth plans centre on strengthening that UK offering while expanding internationally.
Why now? The new owners have deep tenure at the firm: Nicholson and Simpkin have each spent nine years there, while Bryant joined as a graduate eight years ago. Nicholson has led the business as managing director for more than six years and will continue to do so.
What's next? The firm recently appointed Annie Tang as associate director and head of international to drive expansion across the Asia-Pacific region.
"We've all been given opportunities here that have shaped our careers, and we're committed to creating those same opportunities for others," Nicholson said. Simpkin added: "When I joined JMC nine years ago, I never imagined I'd one day have the opportunity to become an owner of the business."
The signal: The buyout shows how founder-led recruitment firms can transition to long-serving staff, turning employees into owners and keeping leadership continuity intact as the business pushes into new markets.
