JAOPS raises $1.65M seed to build space mission operations platform

What's the deal? JAOPS, which supports the operation of satellites and other space missions, has raised US$2M in a seed round. UntroD CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → Japan and Midtown Frontier Fund backed the round.

What's the endgame? The company is building Operations as a Service (OaaS), bundling operations tools, training, and control infrastructure for satellite and mission operators. The goal is to let space operators run missions without assembling their own in-house teams and systems.

Where it stands: JAOPS already provides mission operations services to customers across six countries — Japan, Spain, France, the UK, South Korea, and the US. It develops its operations systems using open-source software and plans to build its own mission control center (MCC).

What's the money for? The funds will go toward expanding operational capacity, developing the tools and simulators needed for its first MCC, and scaling OaaS for space missions worldwide.

The signal: JAOPS is positioning around rising demand for outsourced and service-based mission operations, a bet that growing space activity will push operators toward shared infrastructure rather than building everything themselves.
