MSBG buys SunMetricLab solar calculator to expand its blockchain grid network

What's the deal? MSBG CorporationDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has signed an agreement to acquire the SunMetricLab Green Energy Calculator Portal, an independent tool that estimates the cost and savings of rooftop solar for homes and commercial properties. Terms were not disclosed. The transaction is set to close by October 1, 2026.

What does SunMetricLab do? The portal lets users size a solar system, price it, and estimate savings and payback from their own power-bill inputs. Its calculators run in the browser and show the formula behind every result, drawing on public data from sources including the National Renewable Energy LaboratoryDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the US Energy Information Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service.

Founded by senior software engineer György Zsibrita in Budapest, Hungary, SunMetricLab was built after he struggled to get reliable online estimates while sizing a system for his own home. It operates independently of solar dealers and installers.

Who's buying? MSBG Corporation, formed in 2014 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, develops energy bundle solutions for micro-grids, energy co-ops, and homeowner associations. It runs the MeterNet Secure Blockchain Grid, which lets co-ops and micro-grids process, notarise, and scale power metering, digital billing, and clearing from distributed energy resources.

What's the endgame? MSBG plans to fold SunMetricLab into its MeterNet MyGRID Network offerings. Users will be able to order engineering design plans for residential solar and battery projects directly through the new MyGRID Plans service, linked from the calculator's navigation bar at fixed prices.

The signal: The deal adds a consumer-facing entry point to MSBG's grid infrastructure, bundling free estimation tools with paid engineering services. It reflects a broader push to connect the front end of solar decision-making — what a system costs and saves — with the back-end systems that meter and bill distributed energy.
