Tasco and GenAI Fund back Vietnam's Bonbon with $500K

What's the deal? GenAI FundDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and TascoDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → have led a $500,000 early-stage round in Bonbon, a Vietnamese platform connecting car owners with garages and auto care centres. The two investors announced the deal on September 22nd.

What does Bonbon do? It acts as a digital link between car owners and existing garages rather than building its own chain of service points. The model aggregates fragmented supply, standardises the customer experience, and expands from car washing and routine maintenance into servicing across a vehicle's lifecycle.

Why now? Bonbon grew out of Wash3000, a venture builder program Tasco runs with GenAI Fund. The program tackled a market with an estimated 12,500 car wash and detailing facilities in Vietnam, most of them independent operators with uneven standardisation and digitalisation.

What's the money for? Founder and chief executive officer Nguyen Chi Dung said the funding will help Bonbon perfect its technology platform, expand its network of partner garages, and build digital tools to help service facilities improve efficiency and reach customers.

The endgame: GenAI Fund, an ecosystem fund focused on Southeast Asia's AI startups, sees Bonbon as proof of its venture builder approach. Managing partner Laura Nguyen said the model turns a corporate group's assets and scale into "a launching pad for startups to grow faster." It is now extending the approach to other Southeast Asian firms with strong customer, data, or distribution advantages.

The signal: Regional capital is tightening. Southeast Asian tech startups drew $2.81 billion across 98 equity deals in the first quarter — the lowest deal count in eight years. Money is not gone, but it is concentrating on teams with clear problems, market proof, and execution discipline.
