What do they do? Madrid-based Combiberia acts as an intermediary for Spanish freight forwarders and logistics companies using intermodal services to and from the Iberian Peninsula. Its work includes commercial and operational support and coordination between customers, Kombiverkehr's Frankfurt headquarters, and Spanish terminals in Barcelona, Madrid, and elsewhere.
Why now? Combiberia has worked with Kombiverkehr since 1994. Full ownership gives the acquirer direct responsibility for these activities and a stronger local position as it develops its Spanish business.
What changes? The takeover will initially leave Combiberia's customer-facing organisation unchanged, with existing contacts and the Madrid, Irun, and Barcelona offices remaining in place. Antonio Pérez Millán stays on as senior executive advisor, while Sébastien Eisner, previously head of Western European sales at Kombiverkehr, becomes managing director. The Spanish company will also adopt a new corporate identity within the Kombiverkehr Group.
What's the endgame? Kombiverkehr wants to expand Combiberia beyond its intermediary role. It plans to develop new domestic intermodal rail services within Spain and target additional customer groups, including temperature-controlled transport.
The signal: The acquisition marks a shift from a long-standing agency relationship to direct ownership, giving Kombiverkehr a foothold to compete in Spain's domestic rail freight market rather than only cross-border traffic.
