Try Dealroom →'s stake in Egyptian Refining Company (ERC)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → for about $420 million, its founder and chairman Ahmed Heikal said. The deal roughly doubles Qalaa's indirect stake in ERC to 27.1% from 13%.

How it works: Qalaa's board approved contributing 55.4% to "New Edge Refining," the vehicle that will buy all shares of "QPI Egypt" from QatarEnergy. QPI Egypt holds an effective indirect stake of 25.4% in ERC.

Financing: Qalaa will fund the acquisition using part of the proceeds from a capital increase, plus part of the dividends due on its existing ERC stake.

Why now? Heikal said ERC currently enjoys refining margins he described as "excellent," making a larger position more attractive.

What's next? Qalaa expects to close the deal in December 2026, after securing required conditions and approvals. The impact of the bigger stake should appear in group results from the first quarter of 2027.

The signal: The exit hands a Qatari state energy company's Egyptian downstream position to a local investor, deepening Qalaa's bet on domestic refining as the sector benefits from strong margins.
