What's the endgame? The company is building what it calls an integrated deprescribing network to help people safely stop medications that may no longer be necessary, starting with antidepressants. Its flagship Taper Management program is available in 14 states.

Co-founded by Brandon Goode and Dr. Mark Horowitz, OutroDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → combines trained clinicians, evidence-informed tapering protocols, ongoing monitoring, and psychosocial support. Rather than treating discontinuation as a single prescription change, its model relies on individualized adjustment as patients taper.

Why now? Outro says roughly one in six Americans takes an antidepressant, with average use exceeding five years — far longer than the studies that supported initial FDA approval. Research cited by Horowitz found that four in five long-term users could not stop because of withdrawal symptoms.

The company argues healthcare systems have not built comparable infrastructure around discontinuation, and that deprescribing remains largely absent from medical education.

What's the money for? The $7 million will fund expansion into additional drug classes, growth of Outro's clinician network, and partnerships with universities and patient advocacy groups. It also plans to expand its use of AI within deprescribing-specific clinical and administrative workflows.

Outro did not specify which medication categories it will address next or give a timetable.

The signal: The round lands as deprescribing draws broader attention. The US Department of Health and Human Services has prioritized evidence-based deprescribing guidelines, working with groups including the American Psychiatric AssociationDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. Outro sees that as a sign medication discontinuation is becoming an established part of care rather than something patients navigate alone.
