GSL buys StudentReviews.com to make resident feedback AI-readable

What's the deal? Global Student Living (GSL)Dealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has acquired StudentReviews.comDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a review platform for student accommodation. The terms were undisclosed, and the deal was announced on October 14, 2026.

What do they do? GSL is a resident insight and benchmarking company that works with operators and universities in 19 countries. StudentReviews.com, founded in the US, now covers UK and European student housing, publishing more than 50,000 verified ratings and reviews collected since 2016.

Why now? GSL says that figure should nearly double by the end of 2026 as it connects the platform to its client base. The acquisition extends GSL's work beyond private benchmarking, letting clients make their resident experience public.

What's the endgame? From October 2026, GSL clients can route review content to StudentReviews.com through the GSL Index and ResX Studio tools they already use. The aim is to merge resident experience, benchmark position, and public reputation into one system.

The pitch rests on AI discovery. "The StudentReviews.com platform has been built for AI discovery from the ground up," said James King, technical lead at GSL. He added that the full review history is available as "structured, machine-readable data with open access for AI systems," which the tools students and parents rely on tend to favour.

Tim Daplyn, founder and chief executive officer of GSL, said operators can spend decades refining resident experience "but until now have had few ways to prove it beyond their own marketing." He said the acquisition makes that evidence verified, at scale, and "in a form the AI tools students now use want to consume."

The signal: As AI tools increasingly guide where students book, platforms holding verified, structured review data gain value. GSL is betting that owning that data layer turns reputation into a byproduct of operators' existing work rather than a separate marketing effort.
