Hydrogen valve startup Vazen lands seed backing from Busan centre
What's the deal? VazenDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Busan-based deep-tech startup developing high-pressure hydrogen safety valves, has raised a seed round from the Busan Center for Creative Economy & Innovation through the Busan Unicorn Startup Personal Investment Association. The centre announced the deal on October 16. The amount was not disclosed.
What's the endgame? Vazen aims to localise production of hydrogen valves, a core safety component for refuelling stations and hydrogen storage and transport facilities. It has finished a prototype of its high-pressure valve and is now preparing performance verification and certification. The company has also built its own test environment to validate reliability under ultra-high-pressure conditions.
Why now? As hydrogen infrastructure expands, demand for critical safety parts is rising. Vazen is already in talks with domestic hydrogen and industrial-equipment firms on supply deals and has signed a letter of intent with a Japanese company for prototype evaluation and future supply.
The startup runs an in-house research lab and was selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' Youth Startup Academy in 2026. The seed money will fund certification, product upgrades, manufacturing capacity, and new customer acquisition at home and abroad.
"We will accelerate the certification and commercialisation of high-pressure hydrogen safety valves," said chief executive officer Yoon Jang-geun. "We will prove our competitiveness not only by localising key parts for domestic hydrogen infrastructure but also in overseas markets such as Japan." (translated from Korean)
An investment official at the centre said Vazen has "high expertise in the design of high-pressure hydrogen safety valves" and strong execution from its leadership and team, citing growth potential tied to the spread of the hydrogen economy. (translated from Korean)
The signal: The round reflects regional public-backed capital targeting hydrogen supply-chain components, betting that import substitution in safety hardware can underpin a specialist supplier as hydrogen infrastructure scales.
