What changes? The Edit will keep operating autonomously. Founder Dave Austin moves to a non-executive director role, while Claire Hamilton and Sharman Finn, who have led operations in recent years, continue to run the business.

What's the endgame? The deal extends Family Tree's reach across broadcast and digital. "While film and television remain at the heart of what we do, being part of a media group that spans both broadcast production and digital only strengthens that," Finn said.

Why now? Family Tree already had a working relationship with the facility, which marked its 20th anniversary last year. "When the opportunity presented itself, we couldn't resist bringing them into the Family Tree group," chief executive officer David Sumnall said.

The signal: The acquisition reflects continued consolidation among independent UK production and post-production firms, as media groups fold specialist studios into portfolios that cover both broadcast and digital output.
