Ampersand opens its first franchise-operated battery swap station in Kigali with Power Charge

What's the deal? Ampersand has launched the Miduha battery swap station in Kigali with Power Charge Ltd, a Rwandan EV charging company. It is Ampersand's first franchise-operated station in Rwanda: Power Charge runs Ampersand's swap system on site and is expected to handle more than 72,000 battery swaps a year for hundreds of commercial e-motorcycle riders.

Context The franchise model lets Ampersand expand its swap infrastructure faster and with less capital by working with local operators. The company delivers more than 20,000 swaps a day across Rwanda and Kenya and has powered over 450 million kilometres of travel.
