Cantabria's Avancem Engineering wins three direct contracts for the ITER fusion reactor
What's the deal? Avancem EngineeringDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the Maliaño-based engineering arm of Cantabrian industrial group Mademan, has won three direct contracts in 2026 for ITER, the experimental fusion reactor under construction in Cadarache, France. The work covers components for the vacuum vessel pressure suppression system; machining, welding, cleaning and helium leak testing for a high-voltage feedthrough chamber; and the design and manufacture of three sets of special tools to insert and position the giant bolts that hold the reactor's magnets together.
Context The contracts make Avancem a direct supplier to the world's largest magnetic-confinement fusion experiment. The company is also designing and installing a cooling system at the ALBA synchrotron near Barcelona, has worked on the European Spallation Source in Sweden, is bidding for CERN contracts and is involved in the IFMIF-DONES fusion materials facility in Granada. Mademan has been shifting from traditional manufacturing clients towards science infrastructure since the pandemic.
