Brno cultivated-pork startup Mewery adds Vesna VC and moves toward industrial production
What's the deal? Mewery, a Brno startup growing cultivated pork from cells, has taken a new investment from Croatian deep-tech fund Vesna VC, worth several million Czech crowns. The capital will fund industrial validation of its technology, and the company says it is preparing a follow-on round to get ready for pilot production. Mewery previously received a grant of more than CZK 60M and has raised over CZK 100M in total.
Context Mewery reports stable suspension culture of pork cells without scaffolds, a key step toward scale-up, with yields of 300 grams of biomass per litre. "Yield is one of the basic parameters that decides whether cultivated meat can become commercially viable," says founder and CEO Roman Lauš. The company has also hired Moria Shimoni as CTO; she brings industrial production experience from Believer Meats (formerly Future Meat Technologies).
