What's the deal? Fortune Brands InnovationsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → agreed on October 15 to sell FiberonDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, its composite decking business, to a subsidiary of Inteplast Group CorporationDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → for $160 million in cash. Fortune Brands acquired Fiberon in 2018 for about $470 million.

Why now? Fortune Brands began a strategic review of Fiberon in May 2026 to focus resources on higher-return opportunities. The sale clears the unit from its portfolio.

What changes? The agreement covers Fiberon manufacturing sites in New London, North Carolina — where the business is headquartered — and Meridian, Idaho. Inteplast plans to place Fiberon in its World-Pak division and Inteplast Building Products unit.

John Stevens, president of World-Pak, described the planned acquisition as an "expansion within the decking category."

What could go wrong? Fortune Brands expects an additional noncash impairment charge of $175 million to $205 million tied to the agreement — more than the $160 million cash price. That figure is separate from the $228.7 million in impairment charges it had already recorded for the Fiberon asset group as of June 27, 2026.

What's next? Fortune Brands expects to close within 60 days, pending regulatory approval.

The signal: The sale price well below the 2018 purchase cost, paired with heavy impairment charges, underscores a decisive exit from a category Fortune Brands no longer sees as a priority.
