AkzoNobel and Axalta pick Axanzo as merged company name, eye early 2027 close

What's the deal? AkzoNobelDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Axalta Coating SystemsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → will operate under the name Axanzo once their planned merger closes, the companies said on October 15. The combined business expects to trade under the ticker AXZ on the New York Stock Exchange and Euronext Amsterdam.

Who's involved? AkzoNobel, the Dutch maker of paints and coatings listed in Amsterdam, is merging with Axalta Coating Systems, a US coatings supplier listed on the NYSE. Both companies serve the automotive and collision repair markets.

Why now? The merger is on track to close in early 2027, once all regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions are met. That is a slight slip from earlier guidance, when the companies pointed to late 2026 or the start of 2027.

What changes? For now, nothing. Both companies will continue to operate independently until the deal closes.

The signal: The coatings sector is consolidating, and the Axanzo tie-up joins a wave of large automotive-adjacent deals. On the same day, CCC Intelligent Solutions agreed to go private in a $6.1 billion deal, and Penske Automotive GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → lined up a $16.3 billion take-private — a sign of heavy dealmaking across the vehicle supply and repair chain.
