Battery printing startup Sakuu to go public via SPAC at $600M valuation

What's the deal? Sakuu Corporation, a Silicon Valley battery-manufacturing startup, will go public by merging with Pyrophyte Acquisition Corp. IIDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → (NYSE: PAII), a special purpose acquisition company. The deal implies a pre-money equity value of $600 million for Sakuu. Upon closing, Pyrophyte will be renamed Sakuu Corporation and trade on the NYSE under the ticker "SAKU."

What's the endgame? Founded in 2016, Sakuu develops dry-printing equipment for making battery and supercapacitor electrodes. Its Kavian platform 3D-prints electrodes in a fully dry process, which the company says cuts manufacturing costs by 40-60%, shrinks factory footprints by half, and eliminates toxic solvents.

What's the money for? Proceeds will fund continued development and commercialization of the Kavian platform, including preparations for commercial availability in the second quarter of 2027, and to support purchase-order fulfillment.

Why now? Sakuu is positioning its technology for AI data centers, where its batteries and supercapacitors can be tailored for rack integration close to servers, with higher energy density and lower heat generation. "Kavian technology is not only the world's first additive manufacturing solution to dry print high-performance battery electrodes at scale; it can also dry print supercapacitor electrodes customized for the growing power needs of AI data centers," said founder and chief executive officer Robert Bagheri.

The signal: Sakuu bets that the AI buildout, energy-transition demand, and shifting trade policy will fuel appetite for cheaper, cleaner battery production. Going public via SPAC gives it capital to reach commercial scale ahead of its 2027 target.
