TacticalPay goes independent as founders buy out gun-store payments brand

What's the deal? TacticalPay, a payments and point-of-sale provider for firearms businesses, now operates as independent, founder-owned TacticalPay LLC. On October 1, the new company took full ownership of the TacticalPay brand, website, products, and services for an undisclosed sum. Co-founders Rich McIver and Andy Hagans lead it as chief executive officer and president, respectively.

What's the endgame? The founders plan to reinvest in easier-to-use payment tools for gun stores, spanning tap-to-pay, e-commerce, and POS products. "We're putting everything we have into the firearms industry," Hagans said.

What's the product? TacticalPay Tap takes contactless payments on a phone with no terminal, while its E-commerce plan adds a gateway for websites, GunBroker listings, and phone orders. Both cost $69 per month. For high-volume stores, TacticalPay POS runs $199 per month plus a one-time hardware bundle, with built-in compliance for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, including an electronic bound book and 4473s.

Why now? The brand has been serving federal firearms licensees (FFLs) since 2017, growing largely through referrals between gun-shop owners. Most merchant applications are approved in one to three business days, handled by an in-house, Texas-based team.

The signal: Firearms merchants often face limited options from mainstream processors, giving specialist providers room to build loyalty on compliance and speed. In July 2025, GunFriendlyPayments.com ranked TacticalPay first among its top five gun-friendly processors — a niche positioning the founders are now betting on by taking full control.
