Steer Property Group buys two estate agencies, expanding to nine branches

What's the deal? Steer Property Group has acquired Duncan YeardleyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Sears estate agents from Nick Thring for an undisclosed sum, expanding to nine branches across Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. The deal gives the independent group three estate agency brands and around 100 employees.

What changes? Duncan Yeardley and Sears will keep their existing trading names, staff, and four offices, with no immediate changes for clients. Both businesses had grown over several years under Thring, who said the decision to sell followed that expansion.

Why now? The purchase follows Steer's acquisition of Tim Russ & Co in June 2024. Managing director Vince Courtney, who has known Thring since 2012, called it "a natural fit, built on trust and shared values."

What's the endgame? Operations director Ben Steer said the move was part of plans to grow "as a truly independent business across Berkshire and Buckinghamshire." Courtney, marking his 40th year in estate agency, said he and Steer are "committed to keeping Duncan Yeardley and Sears exactly as they are."

The signal: The deal reflects continued consolidation in UK estate agency, with independent groups buying up local firms while preserving their brands and staff to keep client relationships intact.
