What's the endgame? Kirari Life Support pairs seniors — known as "Kirari-san" — with families to help with cleaning, cooking, and childcare. The model aims to tap older workers' experience while meeting rising demand from busy households, creating what the company calls a cycle where "seniors shine and light up society" (translated from Japanese).
Why now? The company says demand for reliable, on-call domestic support is climbing as family lifestyles diversify. At the same time, seniors increasingly seek ways to stay socially connected and put their skills to use.

What the founder says: Chief executive officer Eriko Kitao said she was grateful that Shoko Chukin Bank "evaluated our business and growth efforts" (translated from Japanese). She said the funds will help the company build the capacity to deliver its service to more households.
