Lineal buys Swiss firm Forentec to deepen cyber and investigations reach

What's the deal? LinealDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a global legal technology and services provider, has acquired ForentecDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Switzerland-based specialist in eDiscovery, digital forensics, cyber security, and open-source intelligence (OSINT). Terms were undisclosed.

What each side brings: Kansas City-based Lineal, founded in 2009, offers eDiscovery, investigations, managed review, and AI tools through its AmplifyAI suite. Forentec, founded in 2015 near Zurich, serves law firms, corporations, financial institutions, insurers, and public authorities on complex investigations, litigation, and cyber incidents.

What changes: Forentec clients gain access to Lineal's broader eDiscovery and review capabilities, while Lineal clients globally pick up Forentec's forensics, cyber security, and OSINT expertise. Founder and managing partner Lionel Bloch joins Lineal alongside his team.

Why now? The deal gives Lineal its first meaningful footprint in Switzerland and extends its push across the EMEA region. It follows the recent appointment of David Kern, formerly global head of processing and review management for eDiscovery at UBS in Zurich, as general manager for EMEA.

What's the endgame? Lineal is betting that digital investigations increasingly span multiple disciplines. "eDiscovery, forensics, cyber security and intelligence increasingly intersect, and adding Forentec expands our global discovery investigations offering," said chief executive officer Major Baisden.

For Forentec, the acquisition is a route to scale. "Joining Lineal allows us to preserve those strengths while giving our clients access to a much broader global organization, additional technology, and expanded eDiscovery and review capabilities," said Bloch.

The signal: The lines between legal discovery and cyber security are blurring, as the same data-heavy incidents trigger litigation, forensic work, and breach response at once. Lineal's move reflects a broader consolidation in legal technology, where providers are bolting on technical capabilities to handle cross-border, multi-disciplinary matters under one roof.
