Rethink Ireland backs Dublin's inner city with €2M fund

What's the deal? Rethink IrelandDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Irish LifeDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → have launched a €2 million fund to support community-led initiatives in Dublin's inner city. The Inner City Dublin Fund will back up to eight projects focused on wellbeing, safety, cohesion, and inclusion. Irish LifeDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → is the sole donor.

Why now? The fund targets people most affected by isolation, poor mental health, addiction, or exclusion. It encourages applications from organisations that amplify underrepresented voices — particularly youth, migrants, and those hit by addiction or inequality.

What's the endgame? Awardees get financial support plus tailored business and capacity-building help through Rethink Ireland's Accelerator Programme. They also gain access to Irish Life's Community Impact Hub, a new space in Dublin 1 for collaboration and networking.

The fund marks Rethink Ireland's largest investment in Dublin city communities and its largest single-donor contribution to a place-based fund. "This fund represents an important first for Rethink Ireland," said Deirdre Mortell, chief executive officer of Rethink Ireland.

The money comes from Irish Life's pledge to give 1% of annual pre-tax base earnings, on a three-year average, to community, environmental, and social causes. The insurer has been based in Dublin 1 since 1939.

"This €2m fund ... will support organisations rooted in inner-city Dublin, helping them create opportunities and build stronger connections for the people they serve," said Declan Bolger, chief executive officer of Irish Life.

The signal: The partnership shows corporate philanthropy being channelled into place-based social funds, with companies tying charitable giving to a fixed share of earnings. Applications close November 20.
