Tavion starts Poland battery builds with $58M raise

What's the deal? Swedish energy company TavionDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has started construction of its first battery energy storage projects in Poland, backed by roughly $58 million in equity and debt raised in September. Construction began October 8 in Bydgoszcz, with a second facility in Luboń set to break ground within two weeks.

Why now? Tavion launched operations just six months ago and secured land, grid connection, and permits before closing its financing. "We had land, grid connection and permits in place before the financing closed, which is why we can start two projects at once rather than one after another," said chief executive officer Emad Zand.

What's the endgame? The Bydgoszcz facility will carry 20 MW of grid capacity and 40 MWh of storage, discharging at full capacity for about two hours. It forms part of a 184 MW portfolio at or near ready-to-build status, within a wider 1.7 GW Polish pipeline. Tavion is targeting grid connection in 2027.

Why Poland? The country is expanding renewable generation while reducing its reliance on coal, but operational battery storage remains limited. That imbalance opens room for developers delivering grid-connected storage at commercial scale.

The Bydgoszcz site will connect to the distribution network run by Enea OperatorDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, with Esix Polska as balance of plant contractor.

The signal: At $58 million, Tavion's raise ranks among the largest early-stage venture rounds of all time, in the top 1% by amount. It reflects investor appetite for storage infrastructure in one of Europe's fastest-growing markets — and a model that prioritises development readiness to shorten the path from financing to revenue.
