Try Dealroom →, an agentic AI company it had worked with for more than 12 months. The deal value was undisclosed. The acquisition brings Flightline's technology and AI engineering team into Stout as it builds an AI-enabled workbench for how its professionals research, analyze, and advise clients.

What's Flightline? The startup builds agentic AI that breaks complex work into structured workflows supporting research, analysis, and evidence-backed conclusions. Its technology coordinates AI agents drawing on internal and external data.

Why now? The two firms spent over a year co-developing AI-enabled workflows inside real client engagements, testing how agentic AI can augment the work. Commercial diligence became an early proving ground, drawing on Stout's experience across more than 1,000 buy-side diligence engagements.

What's the endgame? Stout wants to embed AI into how its people work, freeing time for the questions that require judgment and client interaction. "We are investing significantly in AI because we believe it improves the quality and speed of the work we deliver to our clients," said Cory Thompson, co-chief client service officer at Stout. Professionals continue to direct the work and remain accountable for the advice delivered.

What they're saying: "Our goal has been to bring the lab to the field," said Stuart Ferguson, president of Stout StrategyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. He said putting Flightline in practitioners' hands creates "a direct feedback loop between our professionals and technology."

The signal: The deal reflects how professional services firms are moving from AI experiments to owning the technology outright. By acquiring a co-development partner rather than buying off-the-shelf tools, Stout is betting that proprietary workflows, tied to its institutional knowledge, will set its advisory work apart.
