SmallClaims raises €2M seed to automate small-claims litigation across Europe
What's the deal? Copenhagen-based legaltech startup SmallClaimsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised €2 million in a seed round led by Finnish venture capital firm Vendep CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. The money will fund further development of its AI platform, expansion into new European markets, and team growth in Copenhagen.
What's the endgame? Founded in 2021, SmallClaims uses specialised AI agents to automate the small-claims process — from legal assessment and settlement talks to court filings, judgments, and enforcement. The aim is to make it economically viable for businesses to chase unpaid invoices that would otherwise be written off.
The problem: More than €930 billion in claims are written off annually across the EU because they are too costly to recover through the courts, the company says. Traditional proceedings can require over 15 hours of legal work and take more than a year.
Why now? SmallClaims says its platform has cut manual case-handling time to roughly 1.5 hours per case, with a win rate above 90%. "The court system was built for an era in which a lawyer sat with every single case," said founder and chief executive officer Christian Olson. "That makes sense for a €1 million dispute, but not for a €2,000 invoice."
The company serves more than 500 customers, including debt collection agencies, law firms, and businesses handling large volumes of invoices. It processed more than 3,200 cases in 2025, with case intake up more than 370% between 2023 and 2025.
The money model: SmallClaims runs mainly on a no-win, no-fee basis, with fees generally covered by the debtor through statutory legal costs, plus subscriptions and integrations. It expects to triple revenue in 2026 and targets more than €100 million in annual revenue in the coming years.
The signal: The round is modest — placing it in roughly the 76th percentile by size — but it lands as the EU pushes electronic filing, digital document service, and video hearings. That digitalisation, alongside the European Small Claims Procedure for cross-border claims up to €5,000, is opening the door for startups looking to automate legal work at scale.
