Nobikan raises $17.2M in post-IPO placement to fund AI infrastructure push

What's the deal? Nobikan Artificial Intelligence Technology (2635.HK) has raised US$16.3M through a post-IPO equity placement. The company develops AI operations and maintenance technology for large infrastructure sectors, including rail transit, petrochemicals, and civil aviation.

What's the money for? Nobikan said part of the proceeds will fund research into core AI technology for large infrastructure, plus new uses: building an AI agent platform, offering model-as-a-service, and developing the compute infrastructure to train and run AI models.

Why now? The placement moved fast — from the September 29 announcement to completion on October 9, roughly 10 days. It covered under 4.2% of total shares, a deliberately modest size that the company framed as a measured approach to raising capital during a growth phase.

The financials: Nobikan's first interim report since listing showed revenue of US$42.1M for the first half of 2026, up 32.1% year on year, and net profit of US$7.38M, up 33.9%. Gross margin rose to 55.0% from 39.2%, a gain of 15.8 percentage points.

Software sales reached US$8.53M, more than 13 times the year-earlier figure, lifting its share of total revenue to 20.3% from 1.9%. Technical services revenue grew 68.8% to US$9.28M.

The business: Built on its NBK-INTARI AI platform, the company runs three segments. Transport solutions grew 25.5% with an 87.6% gross margin; energy solutions grew 81.7% with margins doubling to 33.5%; and urban governance grew 25.3%.

Who bought in? The placement went to no fewer than six independent third parties, none of whom joined the ranks of major shareholders. The company said the targeted structure avoids concentrated selling pressure on the secondary market, in contrast to firms that raise through staged share issuance.

The signal: The round reflects a shift in how markets value listed AI companies, from concept to commercial traction — with revenue growth, gross margin, and cash flow now in focus. Nobikan's climbing margins point to a model moving toward standardised services, though sustained earnings will determine whether a higher valuation follows.
