Drylab AI lands $3M seed to build autonomous research agents

What's the deal? Drylab AIDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a Singapore-based artificial intelligence agent platform, has raised a $3 million seed round led by Vertex VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →. Unicorn patent intelligence platform PatSnap also joined the round.

What's the endgame? Drylab builds agents that run research without scientists constantly prompting, instructing or supervising them. The agents set objectives, formulate strategies and draw on "more than 800 integrated scientific tools and databases" to carry out experiments.

How does it work? The agents interpret results and troubleshoot failures on their own. Drylab trained its model on real scientific analysis runs, learning from the decisions and methodological errors made along the way.

The platform can be deployed inside a pharmaceutical company or research institution, letting organisations build autonomous research agents while keeping their data and discoveries in-house.

Why now? Drylab launched in February and already has paying customers across pharmaceutical companies, cancer centres, biomedical research institutes and universities in the US, Europe and Asia.

Where the money goes: Drylab will expand its engineering, biology and sales teams, and pursue the security and compliance certifications large research organisations require.

"Our vision is to bring that capability into the daily work of a highly regulated industry like biopharma, through a swarm of autonomous AI agents working alongside researchers," said co-founder and chief executive officer John Phan.

The signal: At $3 million, the round sits above most seed deals, a sign of investor appetite for AI agents aimed at regulated, high-value fields like biopharma. For Drylab, the bet is that locally deployed agents can move scientists "from biological questions to validated discoveries faster," as Phan put it.
