Optimal Blue buys Usherpa to merge mortgage pricing with borrower engagement

What's the deal? Optimal Blue has acquired UsherpaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a marketing automation and borrower relationship engagement platform built for mortgage professionals. The deal value was undisclosed. Usherpa will be natively integrated into Optimal Blue while continuing to serve loan officers, real estate professionals, and mortgage companies nationwide.

What do they do? Optimal Blue provides product, pricing, and eligibility tools used by more than 200,000 originators to identify and convert loan opportunities. Its technology prices and locks more than one-third of US mortgages. Usherpa helps mortgage professionals nurture relationships and generate business through automated, personalised engagement with past customers, prospects, and referral sources.

Why now? Pricing platforms and customer relationship management (CRM) tools have traditionally run in separate workflows. Combining them lets lenders match the right products and pricing with the right borrowers earlier in the origination process.

What's the endgame? Optimal Blue wants to build "a single originator command center" that moves lenders from lead to loan more efficiently, according to chief executive officer Joe Tyrrell.

"By bringing together pricing intelligence and borrower engagement capabilities, we can ensure originators have the tools to strengthen relationships, uncover more opportunities and compete more effectively in any market environment," Tyrrell said.

What changes for customers? The company says it will keep an open, partner-driven ecosystem, letting customers choose their own CRM and other technology providers. "We value the role that our partners play in bringing both key capabilities and choice, which is why we will always maintain an open ecosystem," Tyrrell added.

The signal: The deal reflects a push to consolidate the fragmented mortgage tech stack, pulling eligibility, pricing, and engagement into one feedback loop. For lenders, the pitch is less manual work and more qualified borrowers converted earlier — a competitive edge in a tight market.
