Phase-change materials startup raises $14.9M Series A for fibre production line

What's the deal? Phase Change Energy Storage (Beijing) TechnologyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised US$13.8M in a Series A round, the company announced in October. Backers included Hangzhou City Investment, Linping State InvestmentDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, and Hangzhou Financial Investment, with prior investor Ventech ChinaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → adding to its stake.

What does it do? Founded in 2020, the company was an early mover in commercialising high-temperature melt spinning of phase-change materials at scale. It works across three material systems — phase-change, radiative cooling, and aerogel — to make smart temperature-control yarns such as PCM nylon, PCM polyester, and PCM bio-based fibres.

What's the endgame? The company runs a fully in-house operation, from raw-material development to finished goods, with no outsourcing. It is led by founder Song Pengcheng, who holds a materials doctorate from Tsinghua University and previously worked on technology transfer at the Nuclear Power Institute of China.

Where's the money going? The funds will primarily back construction of a 10,000-tonne production line for its AC-TEX® phase-change temperature-regulating fibre. It will also fund brand building, licensing partnerships, and further development of its temperature-control technology.

The signal: The round sits in roughly the 76th percentile by size for comparable deals, a solid but not outsized raise. It reflects investor appetite for functional materials that tie into both textiles and energy-efficient temperature management.
