Japan's Mujin raises $224M Series D as SK Square bets on physical AI

What's the deal? Japanese robotics firm Mujin has raised a Series D round of US$251.5M (roughly $224 million), with SK SquareDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s overseas investment arm, tgc squareDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, among the backers. Founded in 2011, Mujin builds "Mujin OS," a general-purpose platform that controls and coordinates fleets of robots and automation equipment across warehouses and factories.

Why SK Square? The South Korean holding company is expanding beyond semiconductors into physical AI, including robot control and factory automation. It sees scope to link Mujin's technology with SK GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s semiconductor and logistics operations.

What's the endgame? SK Square cited semiconductor packaging, logistics, and plant construction as key uses. Integrating logistics robots and automation into a single operating system could improve factory efficiency and help realise autonomous fabs.

By the numbers: Mujin has now raised more than US$503M in total. Its late-2025 round — backed by Japan's NTT GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the Qatar Investment Authority, and Salesforce Ventures — valued the company at over $1 billion.

The raise ranks among the largest of its kind: it sits in the top 1% of Series D robotics rounds in Japan over the past 48 months, based on a sample of 80 deals.

In their words: An SK Square official said it will "continue to identify new investment opportunities in the AI and semiconductor value chain," adding that it will "pursue new investments according to a strategy of selection and focus."

The signal: Capital is flowing toward physical AI as chipmakers chase automated production. For SK Square, backing Mujin is a bet that robot-run factories — not just the chips inside them — are where the next value lies.
