Kunyou Optoelectronics raises $149M in Series C extension
What's the deal? Chinese optics firm Kunyou Optoelectronics has closed a Series C extension of more than US$137.5M, the company announced on October 10. The round reinforces its push into wafer-level optics manufacturing.
What's the endgame? Kunyou is building a 12-inch wafer-level optics production line in Shanghai's Lingang area, backed by a US$275M investment. Company secretary Wang Ting said the project is "steadily progressing on schedule" and is expected to be completed and operational in 2027.
Why now? The fresh capital lands as the Lingang line advances toward its 2027 target, giving Kunyou the funding runway to carry construction through to production.
The signal: A nine-figure extension at this stage marks a clear step up from Kunyou's earlier rounds, signalling investor conviction in domestic wafer-level optics as China deepens its semiconductor supply chain.
