What does Henry do? Its product combines electronic medical records, order management, and billing into one cloud-native system. Since launching in 2023, about 80% of hospitals adopting it have been outside major cities.

Why now? Japan's hospital count keeps falling as staffing shortages hit regional facilities hardest. A revised medical law passed in December 2025 aims for near-universal electronic record adoption by the end of 2030, with cloud-native systems named in the national standard.

What's the endgame? The money funds wider rollout and migration support, plus medical billing outsourcing and AI agents to automate claims. The deeper goal is to pair the banks' long-standing hospital relationships with Henry's software, with lenders referring hospitals and supporting sales.

Its bed occupancy recovered to nearly 90%, monthly overtime for nurses and clerical staff halved, and monthly reimbursement revenue rose to 1.3 times the pre-adoption level.

What they're saying: "We are very pleased to have realised additional support for Henry in cooperation with regional financial institutions," said Shizuoka Bank's Yuki Onda (translated from Japanese).

The signal: A syndicate assembled entirely from regional banks points to local lenders treating startup finance as a tool for regional survival, not just returns. For hospitals that anchor shrinking communities, software and credit are increasingly being packaged together.
