Bootstrapped storyboarding platform MakeStoryboard sold to US entrepreneur
What's the deal? MakeStoryboardDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a German-registered online storyboarding platform, has been acquired by a US-based entrepreneur. Financial terms were not disclosed. The platform will keep operating under its existing brand, with product development continuing under the new owner.
What does it do? Founded in November 2021, MakeStoryboard lets filmmakers, animators, producers, agencies, and creative teams create, organise, collaborate on, and share storyboards. It was built as a bootstrapped business with no external investment.
Why now? The company grew organically, and the US became its largest market by number of users. Co-founder Diana Ziletska said finding a buyer who understood that audience was central to the decision.
What's the rationale? "The U.S. has been at the heart of MakeStoryboard from the very beginning," Ziletska said. The founders wanted a new owner with "the knowledge and experience to continue developing the business in the U.S. market."
The signal: The sale shows that small, bootstrapped software tools can reach an exit without venture backing. For a niche product, matching ownership to its strongest market can matter more than deal size — here left undisclosed.
