Nearwala parent hits US$13.6M valuation after new raise

What's the deal? NearPay Innovations, the Bengaluru company behind hyperlocal commerce platform Nearwala, has reached a US$13.6M valuation after closing an early-stage venture round in October 2026. The company builds technology for consumers, local businesses, retailers, D2C brands, and hyperlocal delivery partners.

What's the endgame? Nearwala started by making local businesses more discoverable to nearby consumers. It has since grown into an ecosystem spanning discovery, shopping, delivery, and merchant tools.

That ecosystem now includes six units: NW Shopping, NW Biz, NW Super Brand, NW D2C Super Seller, NW Flow, and NW Super Store. Each targets a different layer of local commerce — from digital storefronts and CRM to delivery enablement.

By the numbers: Nearwala lists more than 7,000 retail businesses across over 10 Indian cities. It reports more than 500,000 orders processed and over 150,000 social media followers.

Why now? NearPay argues the next phase of India's commerce growth won't just be consumers shifting online — it will involve digitising the infrastructure behind millions of neighbourhood businesses. Its NW Flow unit builds a decentralised network of local delivery partners, while NW Super Store turns existing supermarkets and grocers into digitally connected fulfilment points.

The approach aims to upgrade local retail rather than replace it, letting neighbourhood stores keep their advantage while accessing tools usually reserved for larger digital-first firms.

What's next? The company says it will deepen engagement in current markets before expanding into more Indian cities. "Reaching a US$13.6M valuation marks the beginning of the next phase," said co-founder and chief executive officer Rajiv Surendran.

The signal: India's hyperlocal commerce race has centred on dark stores and quick delivery. NearPay's bet on existing retailers as fulfilment nodes offers a different model for reaching the country's neighbourhood economy.
