BK Plus adds Solihull's Sephton in second deal in a week

What's the deal? BK Plus has acquired Solihull-based Sephton AccountantsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → for an undisclosed sum, its second acquisition in a week. Marston Green-based Sephton, led by partners Steve Connell and Darren Carter, provides accountancy, tax, audit, bookkeeping, and payroll services to regional businesses.

What changes? Not much for clients, at least on paper. The Sephton team stays at its Solihull base and keeps its brand.

Why now? The deal extends BK Plus's push into the West Midlands, a market chief executive Shaun Knight called "an important market" for the group. BK Plus now runs more than 62 offices across the UK, employing over 1,000 people.

What's the endgame? For Sephton, scale means a wider pool of expertise it can bring to growing clients. "Tax gets more complex, corporate structures need advice, succession planning comes into the picture," Connell said. "We can now handle more of that ourselves rather than referring it elsewhere."

The signal: BK Plus's back-to-back deals point to continued consolidation in UK mid-market accountancy, as larger groups absorb regional practices to broaden their footprint and service range.
