Try Dealroom → under the Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) program. The grant funds development of two additional color MicroLED display configurations for ground-soldier and pilot use.
Why now? It is the second major US government investment in Kopin's color MicroLED technology, bringing total IBAS funding to $34 million. The award also pushes the company to onshore its MicroLED manufacturing processes.
What's the endgame? Kopin will build two displays purpose-built for soldier equipment and pilot heads-up displays. Both must deliver high brightness, durability, and power efficiency in demanding operational environments.
The company sees room beyond those programs — weapon sights, helmet-mounted systems, and augmented-reality platforms — alongside its separate AI interconnect products.
What they're saying: "Securing additional IBAS funding represents significant continued validation of Kopin's MicroLED technology and its importance to next-generation U.S. defense systems," said chief executive officer Michael Murray. He added that the combined funding lets Kopin "accelerate the development and U.S.-based manufacturing of additional high-performance MicroLED displays."
The signal: At $18.6 million, the award ranks in the 96th percentile among US consumer electronics grants over the trailing 48 months, based on a sample of 54 deals. That scale, plus the onshoring mandate, marks Kopin as a supplier the US government is backing to keep critical display manufacturing on home soil.
